Urbanears Headphones in “Ocean” ($54.50)
I’ve been looking for headphones off and on for a while. All I’d been using were earbuds, which are terrible for your ears. (I already have tinnitus, and don’t need it to get any worse.)
Priority one: they look good. Priority two: they cost under $60. Priority three: they sound good.
This order makes sense when you consider that I’m just a chick with a few hundred MP3s, and an MP3 is an MP3. It’s never going to sound great. So sound quality, not so much of a priority; looks, yes. If I’m going to wear something on my head for hours while commuting or coworking, it needs to be cute.
I found these at Dijital [sic] Fix in Brooklyn. They come in gorgeous colors, and sound better than others in their price range. They’re pretty comfy, too.
Mr. Phantom X iPhone Skin ($15)
I bought this adorable sticker from FriendsWithYou both to give my iPhone a little personality and to be able to differentiate it from others at geeky get-togethers. It cheers me up when I see the little guy hiding out in my wallet, which looks like this…

Marc by Marc Jacobs Limited Edition Metallic Heart Wallet
A month ago I saw a teen at the H&M checkout with a fantastically gold wallet. It was awesomely bold, and I wanted one, too, even if — or maybe because — my wardrobe is pretty plain.
I saw this one on a shopping trip with my friend Amanda in San Francisco, and had to have it. You can’t really tell from the picture, but this thing is gold. It’s a love it or hate it item, and I love it.
I didn’t put the price in the title because it’s listed everywhere for $80, which I don’t recommend you pay, but somehow I got it for $45 in the Pacific Heights Marc by Marc store.
A Fraction of the Whole by Steve Toltz ($10.17)
I judged A Fraction of the Whole by its cover, or, more accurately, the review quoted on it: “‘Riotously funny … deserves a place next to A Confederacy of Dunces’ – Wall Street Journal.” Pretty impressive. I cracked it open in Barnes & Noble and found that it was indeed clever and funny within the first few pages.
I’m on 181 now (only a third of the way through) and have discovered that it’s also a bit disquieting, and endlessly intriguing. A recommended read.
